What does each letter in the dye name stand for?

Dyes are generally organic aromatic compounds with complex molecular structure, and the chemical structure of some dyes has not even been determined. In the production of dyes, dye products often contain some other substances or base isomers, so the scientific name of organic compounds often cannot be used as the name of dyes.
At the same time, the scientific name of the dye can not reflect the color and application performance of the dye. Therefore, the dye adopts a special name.
In the early development of the dye industry, the dye varieties are not rich, usually directly with the color of the dye as the name, which is often seen some common names, such as: malachite green, fluorescent yellow, magenta, etc., which has not adapted to the increasing needs of dye varieties.

Chinese dye workers have carried out a quantitative work on the naming principles of dyes, but the establishment of a reasonable scheme applicable to production, application and research departments still needs to be summarized and modified, and continue to make arduous efforts. According to the "Draft of Nomenclature of Dye Products", which was tried out by the former Ministry of Chemical Industry of China from January 1965, the nomenclature of Chinese dyes - three-paragraph nomenclature is introduced as follows, and the dye name consists of three parts, namely, "crown", "color" and "word tail".

1. Crown Name:
The crown name indicates the name of the dye classified according to the application method or property, such as reduction, dispersion, activity, vulcanization, direct, acid, cation, dispersion cation, etc., a total of more than 30 categories.

Direct, acidic, active, dispersible, cationic, reductive, vulcanized... Classification and introduction of various dyes

Second, color:
The color is called the tu of the color of the dye.

Thirty color names are used:

Bright yellow, yellow, dark yellow, golden, orange, bright red, red, peach, rose, magenta, red purple, bordeaux, purple, lake blue, brilliant blue, deep blue, brilliant green, green, dark green, yellow brown, red brown, brown deep, olive, olive green, grass green, gray, black. The adjective of color, using "tender", "bright", "deep" three words.

Three, the end of the word:
At the end of the word, certain symbols and numbers are used to describe the color light, shape, special properties and other dyeing properties.
However, there are also many symbols that are arbitrarily attached by dye manufacturers, and it is difficult for others to clarify its exact meaning, and because of the different manufacturers and dye categories, some of the meanings of the end of the word are each other.

Fourth, the meaning of the common dye tail:
1, indicating the color of the dye, the nature of the word tail

B stands for blue light (English BLAU, French BLAU);

BW stands for cotton (German BAUMWOLLE);

C stands for chlorine-resistant, cotton, insoluble azo dyes hydrochloride, etc.

D stands for slightly darker, suitable for dyeing, suitable for printing (German DRUCKEREI);

E means slightly dark, suitable for dyeing, suitable for exhaustion dyeing method;

EX means high dye concentration (English Extra);

F means high fastness and bright color;

FF stands for very much;

G Different countries have different meanings, Germany often means yellow (German Gelb), while English-speaking countries often mean Green (English Green);

I stands for fastness equivalent to VAT dye;

J stands for fluorescence (French Jaune);

K stands for VAT dye cold dyeing (German K alt), or thermosetting dyes in reactive dyes;

KN represents a new high temperature type, N represents a new type, usually refers to vinyl sulfone type reactive dyes;

L stands for high fastness to light and solubility of dyes;

P stands for suitable for printing;

R stands for Red (German Rot English Red);

S stands for good sublimation fastness, water solubility, silk and standard concentration products;

SE stands for SALZ-ECHT, which can be fast water;

T is for Sawa;

U stands for blended fabric;

V stands for violet light;

W stands for wool, suitable for warm dyeing method;

X represents common reactive dyes, representing high concentrations, etc.

Y is for yellow light;

2, the end of the word indicating the dye force

The force of the dye refers to the comparison of the intensity of the color of two dyes of the same kind, under the same dyeing conditions, with the same amount. When a specified shade of color is required, the amount of dye used is inversely proportional to the force of the dye.

The strength of standard dyes is usually set at 100%. That is, the dye with a force of 50% is half the concentration of the standard dye, or if you want to achieve the same concentration as the standard dye, the amount should be twice the amount of the standard dye; 200% is twice as dense as the standard dye, or, if you want to achieve the same degree of concentration as the standard dye, only half the amount of standard dye is needed. Here 100%, 50% or 200% is the end of the word indicating the power of the dye.

Sometimes, the suffix indicating the power of the dye can be crowned at the beginning of the entire dye name. Note that 100%, 200%, 300%, etc., do not indicate the pure dye content of the product, they are not an absolute value, but each relative value. Some dye product names have been used for a long time, in order to take care of the user's habits, such as VAT blue RSN, VAT dark blue BO, acid orange yellow Ⅱ and so on still retain the use of their tail letters.

5. Examples of dye names:
Example 1:

VAT Blue BC This dye, its name consists of three segments.

"Reduction" is the crown name, indicating the dye application category, "blue" is the color name, "BC" is the end of the word. The tail B indicates that the dye has blue light, and C is chlorine bleach resistance, indicating performance.

Example 2:

150% active brilliant red K-2BP, "active" is the crown, "brilliant red" is the color, of which "brilliant" is the color adjective. In the end of the word, K represents the type of high temperature dyeing in reactive dyes, which belongs to the chlorotriazene type; B indicates blue light, 2B indicates the degree of blue light; P stands for suitable for printing, that is, the properties and characteristics of dyes; 150% is the dye power.
